Transforming the food system for a sustainable future

By upcycling organic waste and emulating natural processes, AOS is driving the world's transition towards a circular economy.

At AOS we work with local stakeholders to collect discarded fruits and vegetables in the Guadalhorce region. We also take the excess by-product from olive oil mills. This is received daily at our facility to be shredded, mixed and biologically transformed into a balanced diet that is fed to our hungry black soldier fly larvae.

Diet Preparation

Our larvae grow here for the full 2 weeks rearing cycle. We feed them through an automatic dispensation system in our vertical farm.
Thanks to the latest technology we can control the optimal living conditions for every larva at all development stages. Sensors collect data to monitor all changes in humidity and temperature to allow us to optimise the environment for healthy growth.

Larval Fattening

This is what at AOS we call 'fly nirvana'. We create a perfect environment for adult flies to reproduce themselves and lay eggs. A small portion of the eggs is kept to become adults and continue reproducing, thus ensuring a constant starter stock.

Broodstock

Castings and any indigestible organic matter are sifted and used to make our organic fertiliser ACOMPO.

Sifter

Here the magic happens. We first process the black soldier fly larvae by steaming and washing. The larval biomass is then made into a pulp which we can separate into three fractions. We use the amino acids to formulate AMINO and APROTO. The oil is then decanted to produce ALIPO.
Finally, we package our finished products before transporting them to serve our clients.
